My Opinion

Yesterday NBA commissioner Adam Silver came down as hard as he possibly could by banning Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life and fining him 2.5 million dollars for his racist comments to his girlfriend that were caught on tape. While Mr.Silver is receiving much and deserved praise,I have an issue with the previous commissioner David Stern.Mr Sterling was known to be a racist and his business dealings supported that fact.He ruined minority peoples lives by driving them out of his apartment houses and not wanting them to live there because as he put it they smell and attract vermin (he means roaches) and don’t leave the house.Commissioner Stern and the other owners knew about it and no action was ever taken.I’ve heard one reason is because Mr.Sterling was once a lawyer and a litigious one so to avoid any legal ramifications his behavior was overlooked. To that I say bull–it.In a league that’s probably 80% black the powers that be didn’t think it was worth getting in any kind of legal hassle.Shame on Mr.Stern and the other owners for allowing this man to be part of their fraternity.I also have a problem with the NAACP who had already awarded this man a Lifetime Achievement Award and was about to give him another before all this happened and now they say he will not receive the award and they’re giving back his donation.Wasn’t anybody aware of his dealings with minorities or was the money just too good? Questions that I think at some point need to be answered. That’s my opinion.

My Opinion

By now you have probably heard about Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s racist comments to his girlfriend.Let me say that as the writer of this blog that I am a black male and I’m not surprised at this because Mr.Sterling has had a history of blatant racism in his business dealings. He was sued by then GM Elgin Baylor for being fired because he was black. He didn’t want Blacks or Hispanics living in his apartment houses because he said they smell, attract vermin and don’t leave the house. The question I have for Mr.Sterling is why does he have a girlfriend who is Black and Mexican? Why does he own an NBA team that is mostly Black in a league that’s mostly Black?.Granted his girlfriend is young and beautiful and she could pass for a white woman and he has made a ton of money off of Black basketball players. But with social media you cannot hide things like you could 20 years ago. This isn’t new it’s just more out in the open now.The  outrage has been relentless and I believe the commissioner of the NBA must suspend him indefinitely and ultimately the other owners must step up to the plate and strongly suggest that he sell the team.Race is still the most touchy subject in America and to have a sports owner who employs a team of Black players have such an assinine and backwards view of not only Blacks but minorities in general should not and cannot be tolerated. That’s my opinion.

MY OPINION

Major League Baseball is so hypocritical that I can’t believe it.The issue now is the use of pine tar by a pitcher,in this case Michael Pineda of the Yankees. He was caught using pine tar in an earlier game he pitched against the Boston Red Sox but nothing happened to him because it is generally accepted when the weather is cold a pitcher may use something to get a better grip on the ball. The batters have no problem with it because they don’t want a ball possibly hitting them because a pitcher can’t grip it properly. But in the rule book it states a pitcher cannot use a foreign substance of any kind on the ball.Pineda was warned but he did it again anyway. He was caught again and this time thrown out of the game.George Brett hit a home run in 1983 with an illegal bat according the rule of too much pine tar on the bat.He was caught and called out and the Yankees won but Lee McPhail (president of the American League at the time) came up with the bogus “spirit of the rule” idea and the home run counted. The game was replayed from that point and that’s how the famous “pine tar game” happened. The Royals ended up winning.Baseball’s rule book needs a complete overhaul because some of the rules are a joke. That’s my opinion.

My Opinion

I have had enough of certain media members and fans trying to say that Mike Woodson (coach of the N.Y.Knicks)is not to blame for the teams poor season. They were 37-45 this year and didn’t make the playoffs after being 54-28 and winning the Atlantic Division title last season. They lost to the Indiana Pacers in last years playoffs in six games when they had the home court advantage.Woodson had good regular season records with the Atlanta Hawks also but lost in the playoffs.I just don’t think you can win a championship with him as coach. He doesn’t make adjustments during games, the offense consists of getting the ball to Carmello Anthony and the other players watch.Defensively they switch so much that they are often left in a mismatch for the opponent. He was very hard on a good young player like Iman Shumpert while coddling a knucklehead like J.R.Smith.The Knicks need an identity and I believe Phil Jackson will instill that identity along with a system but first he must get a coach that can teach what he wants to achieve.Woodson is not it.That’s my opinion.

MY OPINION

I was listening to the radio the other day and I heard Brad Benson doing a commercial for his auto dealership called Brad Benson Auto.He was making fun of the lane closure on the GW Bridge that has sparked an investigation and has Gov.Christie defending himself. For anyone who doesn’t know Brad Benson was left tackle on the NY Giants 1986 Super Bowl Championship team.He said the lane closure was no big deal. One problem though,an elderly woman died because EMS couldn’t get to her because traffic was at a standstill. If you are going to make light of a serious situation you better make sure you know all of the consequences that occurred or you look like a real idiot Mr.Benson.That’s my opinion.
