NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has slowly become the worst commissioner of the major sports with his latest decision to suspend Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for only two games for hitting his girlfriend.I’m not talking about how much money the league has made or how popular the sport has become since he took over from former commissioner Paul Tagliabue, but from a disciplinary standpoint,he has handed out much worse suspension like Robert Mathis being suspended four games for taking a fertility drug so he and his wife could have a baby.He has made the NFL look bad with this decision and has not bothered to clarify why.Adolpho Birch,Senior VP of labor for the NFL went on the Mike and Mike radio show on Espn and gave an explanation that was, frankly,a bunch of baloney trying to justify the two games suspension.Goodell had a chance, to send a strong message and he failed badly. That’s my opinion.
Tony Dungy, who won a Super Bowl as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, and currently an analyst on NBC Football Night In America, has created a firestorm over his comments about Michael Sam,the first openly gay football player drafted by the St.Louis Rams of the NFL.Dungy said he would not have drafted Sam because it would cause a distraction by the constant media questions about the first openly gay player in the NFL.First of all let me say that,as a Christian,I don’t agree with same sex marriage or relationships. But I do think a person has the right to live their life the way they want and be allowed, based on ability,to make a team. What bothers me is every time someone expresses an opinion on this topic the media circles like sharks in the water.Dungy said the constant media questions would distract from the team concentrating and preparing for the coming season and he,as a coach, would not want that around his team .The media firestorm his comments created shows he’s right.Michael Sam should be judged solely on his playing ability but because he’s gay it puts him as the center of attention. If he’s good enough he will make the team and if he’s not he won’t.The media needs to stop making a big deal out of every comment on this. That’s my opinion.
So LeBron James has gone back home to Cleveland and Carmelo Anthony has decided to stay with the NY Knicks. Finally the speculation about these two NBA superstars, will he stay or will he go, can stop.Good for LeBron that he showed you can go home again. He realized that he made a mistake with that assinine show on Espn “The Decision.”He read a thoughtful letter this time explaining why he wanted to come back.Dan Gilbert, the Cavaliers owner, realized he made a mistake with that stupid letter to the fans when LeBron left.He met secretly with LeBron and gave him a heartfelt apology. It’s great to see a billionaire not to egotistical to say he’s sorry and that paved the way for James to return.Carmelo Anthony, after being wooed like the prettiest girl at the dance, admitted his heart is really in New York and he believes that Phil Jackson will build a championship team.He also signed because no other team could
offer him as much as the Knicks. So both players now are happy where they are. It’s a shame that the NBA has so few really good players that two guys could command so much attention. With free agency being what it is now teams and cities will be in a constant state of worry that the best player on their team may go somewhere else and they will be left out in the cold. That’s my opinion.
Well friends this is a good one.A Yankees fan named Andrew Rector attended the Yankees Red Sox game in April at Yankee Stadium. It was a Sunday night, nationally televised game on Espn. The cameras caught Mr.Rector sleeping while the announcers,Dan Schulman and John Kruk, were reading a promo for Mlb.com.They made a few funny but harmless comments about the sleeping Mr.Rector but it got played all over YouTube and Mlb.com.Mr.Rector was made the laughing stock of the internet. Now Mr.Rector is suing Espn, the Yankees and Major League Baseball for 10 million dollars.Yes that’s right folks,10 million dollars.First of all dude, how can you sleep during a Yankees Red Sox game? And where he was sitting those seats are expensive.I would not pay that much for tickets and then fall asleep. It’s obvious this lawsuit won’t have have any legs.Mr.Rector will be seeking some sort of settlement. On the back of the ticket it says you may be seen on T.V and your actions may be seen, whatever they may be.So a warning,if you’re too tired to stay awake at the game, stay home where you can fall asleep peacefully. That’s my opinion.
Well we have come to the halfway mark in the baseball season despite those dopey sportswriters and broadcasters who say the All Star break is the halfway mark.About all the teams have played 81 games or more so now is the time to take another look at where your team is.Today’s July 1st and right now there are only 3 teams in each league that are 10 or more games over the .500 mark. The Oakland A’s,Detroit Tigers and L.A Angels in the American League and the Milwaukee Brewers,L.A Dodgers and SanFrancisco Giants in the National League. My team the N.Y Yankees are 1 game over at 41-40 but are in the race for the division lead and the wild card.Baseball is full of mediocrity at the moment and except for a few teams the season has been boring. But still, with no team looking capable of running away it should make for an interesting second half.So see where your team is and figure, with about half a season to go,do they have a chance. If you think they do then buckle up because it’s going to be a bumpy ride. That’s my opinion.
